Join in Tours FAQ

  • How many people are there in a tour group?

Normally, there will be 8 to 10 tourists in a tour group. In order to let every tourist listen to our tour guides’ introduction clearly, there will not be more than people. Besides, we know lots of luggage are needed for a tour to Tibet, so the number of group members is limited to make sure there will be enough place for you to store your luggage.

It would be ok if you do not want to travel with other people, please be free to let us know. We will arrange a private tour with private driver and guide for you.

  • If there are not enough people in my group, will my group be cancelled?

No, once your deposit is received, the departure date of your group is confirmed. Even though you are the only member of your group, the group will depart on time. Unless the government decide to close Tibet or the natural conditions are not good, such as frozen road, flood, earthquake and so on, every tour group of ours will depart on time.

  • Do I have to go to an appointed city to meet other members in my group and go to Tibet together with them?

No, it is up to you. We would ask you for the city where you will depart for Tibet from and apply for the Tibet Entry Permit (Tibet Visa) based on the information you provide. So, you just need to tell us where you will take a flight or train to Tibet, and we will list it on your Tibet Entry Permit. Please note that currently, the government only allow international tourists to travel to Tibet by flight or train.

The photo copy of your passport and China Visa are the required documents for the application of Tibet Entry Permit.

  • Can I book the hotels by myself?

Yes, no matter you book a group tour or private tour with us, you could book hotels on your own. In order to avoid inconvenience, please make sure the hotel you want to book is qualified to serve international tourists. Just let us know if you want to book hotels by yourself, and the price for hotel will be cut from our quotation.

In some remote areas, there are only guesthouses which could not be book on the internet. It is better to let us book accommodation for you in those areas, such as Mount Kailash and Everest Base Camp.

Warm tips: The hotels included in our group packages are our most recommended hotels, and we could book them at a relatively low price. So, please let us know the price of hotel you want to stay in Tibet and we will check if we can get a better price.

  • Which types of vehicles do you use for the group tour packages?

The types of vehicles vary according to the size of a tour group. Normally, we use 7-to-8-seat business car for the group with less than or equal with 4 people; 9-seat Mini bus for 5 to 7 people; 15-seat bus for 8 to 12 people; 17-seat bus for 13-14 people; 19-to-21-seat bus for 15-17 people and 29-seat bus for 18-20 people.

Normally, there are only 8 to 10 members in a tour group. However, if you are booking a Tibet tour for more than 10 people, we could arrange a bigger vehicle. If you have more than 20 people, two vehicles are needed for the sake of safety.

  • Are there any tourist shops in the schedules of your group tour packages?

No, we promise there would not be any shops, factory outlets or detours included in any package. Our tour guide and driver will only take you to attractions. If you want, you could buy souvenirs in the shops around those attractions. Our guide could recommend the souvenirs for you, but there would absolutely be no forced shopping.

Warm tips: Over 200 shops and booths are located on the Barkhor Street. It is a good choice to buy local handicrafts, tea, dessert, costumes and accessories on the street.

  • Are there many restaurants in Tibet?

It depends on where you will go in Tibet. Generally speaking, the restaurants in the urban area of Lhasa and Shigatse are much better than other places. Restaurants in both Chinese and Western can be found in these two cities.

Restaurants in other places almost only offer Sichuan food, which is spicy and hot. You may also find a few restaurants offering local Tibetan food. According to our customers’ feedback, only a few of them like Tibetan food.

In order to do the sightseeing smoothly, tourists are recommended to have lunch or dinner in the same restaurant.

  • Are there vegetarian restaurants in Tibet?

There are not so many vegetarian restaurants in Tibet. Please let your guide know if you are a vegetarian. We will ask the restaurants to prepare vegetarian food for you.

Tibetan food usually consists of staple food, soup and meat or vegetable. Most local people like mid flavors, so they only add a little salt and scallion in food. With the development of tourism, more and more people from other places go to Tibet to open their own restaurants, but there are still lots of local people who stick to their eating habits.

  • Are your tour guides local Tibetan people?

Yes, all our tour guides are local Tibetan people. They speak Tibetan language, Mandarin and English. Some of them also speak other languages. Many Tibetan people learned Buddhism in other countries, such as India and Nepal. So, their English is even better than Chinese.

If you want a tour guide who speaks other language to serve you, it is recommended to book a private tour, but the tour guide might be from other places of China.

  • Is there age limit for your Tibet group tours?

No, you can join in our tour groups as long as you are healthy. Our youngest customer was only 2 years old when he went to Lhasa in 2011, while we also arranged Tibet tours for an 80-year-old senior customer in 2015. So, if your medical reports say it is ok for you to travel, please feel free to contact us for a Tibet tour.

Warm tips: If you have heart disease or have ever undergone any major surgery, please ask your doctors for advice. After all, traveling to a plateau area is tougher than plain area.

  • I am a solo traveler. Can I join in your group?

Yes, you are welcomed to join in our group tour packages even if you are a solo-traveler. in order to save more money, there would be a tourist who is willing to share room with you. We will make sure that the tourist’s gender is the same with you. If you do not want to share a room with others, you could pay the single room supplement to occupy the room alone.

Warm tips: It is suggested to share a room with another tourist in Tibet, because talking to each other is helpful to acclimatize to the high altitude.

  • Do you have any emergency measures to deal with altitude sickness?

Please kindly check out emergency measures to deal with altitude sickness as below:

    1. Taking a good rest. There will not be any sightseeing on the day you enter Tibet, because you need to take a good rest to get accustomed to high-altitude.

    2. Moving slowly. Even though you feel ok, it would still be better to walk slowly. The symptoms of altitude sickness, which include headache, chest pain and shortness of breath, may appear later. Most people would be better after one day.

    3. Taking medicine. There are a few kinds of medicine to lessen the altitude sickness, please inquire the local doctors for details. It is to recommended to take these medicine 3 days ahead of the day you enter Tibet.

We will prepare oxygen for every tour group. Please let your guide know once you do not feel good.

  • Can your company book train or flight for me?

Yes, please kindly let us know if you want us to book train or flight for you. We only book flight or train for tourists who would also book group or private tour packages with us.

Tibet Entry Permit, which can only be applied by a Tibet local travel agency, is needed for international tourists who travel to Tibet. And international tourists must be accompanied by a local agency’s tour guides when they are in Tibet, so even though we are willing to book train or flight for you without asking you to book tour package with us, you are not allowed to travel in Tibet independently. That is why you have to book a tour with us.

  • When is the best time to go to Nyingchi for the Peach Blossom Festival?

The best time to admire the Peach Blossom varies due to the altitudes of different places in Nyingchi area. For example, in the low-altitude places, such as Pomi, the peach blossom will be most beautiful at the end of March. And in Bayi Town, where the altitude is higher than Pomi, the peach blossom will be at its best time in the middle of April.

The Gala village is the most renowned place to admire peach blossom in Nyingchi, besides, the Lake Basumtso and Lulang Forest are also good sites for peach blossom appreciation.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the service. Our travel consultant Monica is very responsive and helpful. She responded to our questions promptly and willing to accommodate my request. Tibet tour is very nice and memorable. We got well along with other travel members and became very good friends. The only thing I do mind is the condition of the public toilets, hard to describe, you should see them by yourself.

Initially our tour consultant AMY did a fantastic job of coordinating our tour. This included arranging our small group to meet up in Lhasa despite us arriving there on different days. The accommodation was great and AMY followed up during the tour to ensure everything was going smoothly. Great Job AMY !!

On the tour itself we were accompanied by JESSICA for whom I cannot speak highly enough. Her explanations in all the various locations proved she was very knowledgeable. Her English was clear and she was always willing and able to answer any queries. Best of all, there was not a single day when she did not greet us with a happy and friendly smile. Participated in countless photos with us. The tour was unforgettable thanks to AMY, JESSICA and Asia Odyssey Travel.

Most of the people go to Tibet for spiritual enlightenment. I don’t see myself a purser of religion. But when I stood in front of Jokhang Temple, watching the numerous pilgrims. I was shocked than I would have imagined. Tibet is a wonderful place from local people to the natural resource. What makes this trip extradinary is our excellent guide. He accompanied us wherever we want to and showed us local spots off the beaten track. He is pretty good at English, always shared interesting stories. I learned a few Tibetan phrases from him. The hotel arranged by our agency is well located. We were able to walk around and found local restaurant easily. Anyway, great experience

It was the first time we went to Tibet. Too much things we need to arrange, itinerary, travel date, tickets, permit…We were lucky to have had Kay handle our plan. She was professional, efficient and dealt everything in order. Our trip went smoothly as planned. We visited Lhasa, yamdroke lake, Everest, the beauty of Tibet was beyond my expectation except the altitude sickness.
