Everest Base Camp Weather in March

Weather & temperature at Everest Base Camp in March:

In March, the Everest Base Camp enters the spring, and the precipitation slightly increases. It’s mostly cloudy and misty. Since the altitude is high, the temperature is kind of low all year round. However, , the air becomes more moist when it rains more in the spring. But the evaporation is fast and it still feels sort of dry. The ultraviolet radiation is also strong on the high-altitude areas. The dried-up soil suddenly began to turn green in late March, catching every drop of the spring rain. Though the wind in spring feels not as strong as in winter, when crossing the mountain pass, the wind gets stronger and it is not advisable to stay for long.

The temperature difference between day and night is gradually narrowing down to about 10 degrees Celsius. The coldest season of Everest has already past. The average temperature is -2 degrees Celsius with some occasional extreme temperature of -20 degrees Celsius.

The Everest Base Camp is located in the Himalayas- the Roof of the World. It’s in Tingri County, Shigatse, Tibet, with an average elevation of about 5,000 meters. It is of a plateau mountain climate characterized by “high terrain” and “cold temperature”.

Tips on visiting Mt. Everest in March:

The weather is getting warmer and the snow at lower altitude is melting. But the dark ice on the road still exists, which may cause the vehicle to rollover. The frozen water pipe begins to melt, the tap water in the whole Tingri County is restored. While the temperature at night is still quite low and it takes long for the heating equipment to work properly.

What to wear if visiting Everest in March:

Daytime average temperature: Above 0°C (windy & freezing cold), warm clothes such as outdoor fleece jackets, down jackets, windbreakers, sweaters, wool suits, warm underneath shirts and pants, etc. are recommended. Nighttime average temperature: -10°C, winter clothes such as winter coats, leather jackets, windproof jackets, down jackets, scarves, hats, gloves, sunglasses, masks, etc. are recommended.
