Weather & temperature at Everest Base Camp in August:

The Everest Base Camp in August is in the rainy season. It’s the month with the most precipitation and air humidity. The rainfall is generally at night, and mostly with thunderstorms. The wind is getting smaller, which makes it easier to have outdoor activities. When the strong cold air raids in the plateau area, and the condensation of water vapor forms an “ice pellets” in the air, it often rains with hail.

The temperature difference between day and night narrows down to about 10 degrees Celsius. It’s sunny with a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius during the day, and it drops to 5 degrees Celsius at night, which feels a bit chilly.

The Everest Base Camp is located in the Himalayas- the Roof of the World. It’s in Tingri County, Shigatse, Tibet, with an average elevation of about 5,000 meters. It is of a plateau mountain climate characterized by “high terrain” and “cold temperature”.

Travel Notes on Visiting Mt. Everest in August:

It rains from July to August. Therefore, the sandstone land easily gets muddy after being washed by the rain, which also makes the road slippery. When the vehicles drives by, it’s getting even rougher and hard to drive on. The weather conditions on the way to Mount Everest are complicated and varied. When there is hail, it can be dangerous for the vehicle. It’s cold at night and there is no heating equipment. Please try to keep warm if you stay up to photograph the stars in the middle of the night.

What to Wear if visiting Everest Base Camp in August:

Daytime average temperature: Above 15°C, clothes such as shirts, outdoor jackets, long-sleeved T-shirts, light pull-overs, etc. are recommended.

Nighttime average temperature: 5°C (windy), warm clothes such as winter coats, leather jackets, windproof jackets, down jackets, scarves, hats, gloves, sunglasses, masks, etc. are recommended.
